Are Taxes Really Our Friend?
The news is full of talk about taxes nowadays – this politician is going to cut your taxes, this one wants to raise them, no one likes them…but what are taxes really for? Taxes pay for the roads we drive on, the police and firemen who serve us, the soldiers who defend us. Taxes also pay for pork barrel projects, waste, and fraud. But everyone likes getting tax money. It’s free, right? The next time you think that way, look at your paycheck, see how much is being taken out, and think hard about where it goes….then pick up your phone or write an email to your representative, asking for accountability. The old saying is ‘Don’t put all your eggs in one basket’. Well, we have all our eggs in one tax-driven basket, and we need to watch it!
