A Update from
the Executive Director
I am pleased to be working for the Carol House of Hope. It has
been an exciting and busy five months. My main goal as director
is to raise funds for the shelter and help get the word out about
the shelter. I am also available to speak to your group, congregation,
or organization. So please give me a call at the shelter, 353-7512,
to schedule a date and time. I have been busily sending out grants
as a new source of funding. Our newly formed fund-raising board,
led by Anna Freidinger, has been hard at work coming up with new
ideas for fund-raising. I am pleased to see the work they have
accomplished and excited to be a part of it. The community continues
to support us in a very generous manner and we appreciate that
support greatly. We are looking forward to a prosperous 2005.
The shelter
has been a very busy place. In 2004, the shelter served 33 women
and 29 children. We served 46 clients in a non-shelter, crisis
intervention capacity. Bednights, as categorized by beds occupied
for the evening, for 2004, from March to December 31st, totaled
1,360. The majority of our clients came from Tazewell County while
we also served clients from Peoria, Fulton, Mason, McLean, DuPage,
DeKalb, and Whiteside County, as well as two clients from out
of state.
Our shelter staff has done an outstanding job over the rough months
when there were staff vacancies. The volunteers were very supportive
during staff shortages by taking shifts and filling in as needed.
Our in-shelter volunteers donated 1000 hours of service to the
House of Hope! We could not have done it without the dedication
and hard work of these staff and volunteers. I believe that our
staff shortages are a thing of the past thanks to the determination
of Linda Robertson to locate and build up a pool of part-time
employees.
It continues
to be our mission to serve victims of domestic violence and their
children, offering them wrap around services in order to break
the cycle of violence that is disrupting and endangering their
lives. It is the goal of our staff to empower these victims, to
break the cycle of domestic violence. Our staff and volunteers
are doing a great job working with the clients and their children.
